2169 c1867 The Stuarts move to Bannockburn. The Stuarts moved from Gibralter Rock, Reilly's Beach to Bannockburn and built the Ferry Hotel, location #158.
2177 1876 The Stuarts closed down the Ferry Hotel. The Stuarts closed down the Ferry Hotel (location #158) and moved to Cromwell where they purchased the Victoria Hotel.
2178 1876 A large flood damaged the Ferry Hotel. On 29 Sep 1876, a large flood damaged the Ferry Hotel, and destroyed the Kawarau Bridge (location #154).
2190 1874 Richard Varcoe may have stayed in the Ferry Hotel. Richard Varcoe (1) may have stayed in the Ferry Hotel when he first arrived in Bannockburn. James Stuart was involved in mining ventures on the Carrick Range so they shared a common interest. James Stuart was also a director of the Carrick Range Water Supply Company and Susan Stuart turned the first sod on 20 Apr 1872. Mr Varcoes job as a working manager of the Carrick Range water race would have required him to live on the job in a tent. However he may have stayed with the Stuarts in dwelling #158 when not working on the water race.
