Deceased was running with the ball and James Ah Wing was running his hardest to collar him. Just before they met, Tippett dropped the ball to kick it. I do not think Ah Wing could avoid the collision and I believe it was an accident. There did not seem to be any ill feeling. The game was a rough one and there had been two accidents, Ah Wing was in them. In one, three men came into collision and in the other he threw a man when tackling " James Begg and Charles Lawrence gave similar evidence and Doctor Morris said that the cause of death was injury to the bowels which had been badly bruised. The verdict of the jury was as follows : " That Charles Tippett (Jnr), on the 30th day of July 1893 from injuries accidentally received when playing a game of football at Bannockburn on July 29th came by his death accidentally, casually and by misfortune and not otherwise " The jury added the following rider : " We desire to condemn the rough play practice at some country matches " |
