2081 Prior to James arrival in Bannockburn.

Before coming to Bannockburn James Gibson may have spent some time mining in the Arrow area. His mining licence is in the Arrowtown museum. It is unclear just when James arrived in Bannockburn.

2082 1890 James Gibson may have purchased dwelling #148 from Francis Woodhouse.

James Gibson may have purchased dwelling #148 from Francis Woodhouse. The property was covered in tall tussock which James Gibson broke in with a horse drawn scraper and plough. Apple and peach trees were also planted. Mr Gibson worked as a coal miner in the Bannockburn Creek area.

2084 1897 James Gibson and William Parcell took up a mining area.

In August of 1897, James William Gibson and William Richard Parcell (2) took up an area of land on the east side of Bannockburn Creek, about half a mile (H.O.D) actually 1.5km up from the Kawarau River.

2085 1899 Parcell & Gibson mine producing coal.

The Parcell and Gibson mine was producing coal. The mine was given the name of the Excelsior. This was the name originally given to a coal mine worked by James Stuart, situated on Slaughteryard Hill. (see location #179)

Thge Parcell & Gibson mine 'Excelsior - No 1' (location #192) was purchased by the Cromwell & Bannockburn Colliery Company . It appears that James Gibson continued to work as a coal miner as listed in Stones directory.

2089 1913 Jane Gibson married William Scott.

Jane Agnes Gibson married William Elliot Scott. The couple may have lived in dwelling #148 with the Gibsons. Mr Scott came from and worked in the Nevis as a farm worker.

2091 1917 Death of James William Gibson (2)

James William Gibson (2) was killed at Passchendale Ridge in WW1 on Oct 12 1917, aged 21 years.

It appears that James may have died around this time, however it is not known where he is buried.

2092 1920 Ellen Mary Gibson remained at dwelling #148 after her husbands death.

After the death of her husband, Ellen MAry Gibson continued to live in dwelling #148. She may have lived with one of her daughters, or possibly with Mr & Mrs W E Scott.

2093 1923 Mr & Mrs Scott and family moved to Middlemarch.
