Shepherds Creek, in the western slope of terrace, on southern corner of the intersection of (Tom's) Gully Road and the Bannockburn-Nevis Road. The site of the portal is still visible but is closed off. There are two raised tipheads remaining in the roadside paddock.

2700 1872 James Lawrence took up a coal lease

In July of 1872, James Lawrence took up a coal lease in Shepherds Creek near 'Tom's Gully' ( from Heart of the Desert (Parcell)). This may have been location #240. It appears from mine reports that the name given to this mine by James Lawrence was 'Wallsend'

2701 1877 Mine was working.

By September of 1877 James Lawrence had his coal mine, 'Wallsend' working.

2702 1872 James Lawrence supplying coal.

James Lawrence was supplying and carting coal to the Elizabeth Battery for 23/6 (twenty three shillings and sixpence) per ton plus cartage.
