2982 General history

Sarah Jackson was the daughter of Thomas Jackson who was a blacksmith of Gosforth (a neighboring village to Drigg where Jane Crow was born) in Cumberland. See dwelling #346 for information about Jane Crow.

2983 1881 Sarah Renshaw and the children arrive in New Zealand

Sarah Renshaw and her two sons came out to New Zealand on the same ship as her friend Jane Crow, who was travelling with her three children and her father Isaac Levens. The ship arrived in December from where the Renshaw and Crow families were met by their menfolk and travelled to Bannockburn.

2984 1886 Application for land

On 21 Oct 1886, George Renshaw gave notice to the warden at Cromwell that he desired to occupy one acre of land situated at Shepherds Creek, Bannockburn, about half a mile below the Kawarau Station Homestead. This appears to be the site of dwelling #238 which had obviously been extended.

Andrew Ridland's map of Bannockburn shows a mining claim in Pipeclay Gully in the names of King, Renshaw, Tocher. This may be James King, Wiliam Renshaw and James Tocher. It also shows a claim in Pipeclay Gully in the names of King and Renshaw, which may have been James King and William Renshaw.

The electoral records show George Renshaw as a labourer on Kawarau Station, maybe at the Nevis. His wife Sarah was recorded as residing in Ryders Gully, Nevis.

2990 1906 Death of George Renshaw.

George Renshaw died in 1906. He may have been buried in the Nevis cemetery (no records remain). He is not listed in the Cromwell cemetery records.
