2996 1867 James Cowan appointed manager of Kawarau Station. James Cowan was appointed as manager of Kawarau Station in 1867. The station was then owned by the Australian and New Zealand Land Company.
2997 1898 James Cowan retired as station manager. James Cowan retired as the station manager, then lived at Northburn Station until the lease ran out in 1910. He spent his last days in Dunedin.
2999 c1928 Donald McInnes lived in one of the Kawarau Station huts. Around 1928, Jack Anderson went to the Nevis to get labour to work on re-aligning the Bannockburn Creek water race. One of the labourers he recruited was Donald IcInnes. Once the work was completed Donald stayed on at Kawarau Station, and he lived in a hut behind the homestead for 23 years. Donald rode a chestnut mare which knew it's way back to Kawarau from the Bannockburn Hotel.
3001 Mr James Patrick Parcell was the Kawarau Station gardener. J P Parcell lived in a hut near the Kawarau homestead and worked as the station gardener.
3002 c1927 - c1950 Mr Rooney lived in a hut near the Kawarau homestead. Mr Rooney was an itinerant form worker who moved around Central Otago and as far south as Balclutha. He would come to Kawarau Station to break in horses and work with them. 'Robe' Rooney lived in a hut near the Kawarau homestead. When the work ran out he would move on to other stations, then return months later. Mr Rooney had a small dog who he would 'sell' to Alan Campbell when he needed money to 'go out on the town' in Cromwell. He would then 'buy' back his dog when he earned enough money to pay off his debt.
3003 c1948 Mr & Mrs Colling lived on Kawarau Station. Mr & Mrs Colling and their children came to work on Kawarau Station. They lived in the southern end of dwelling #285.
