3008 1916 David purchased the property in Bannockburn. David purchased a property of 170 acres in the upper part of the Bannockburn Valley, known as Happy Valley. The couple made their home here in dwelling #290 which they had built. Initially a large area was planted in fruit trees, however the property was mainly run as a dairy farm with the fruit trees being finally removed.
3010 1943 The Ritchies sold the farm. David & Jessie Ritchie did not have any children to take over the farm. They offered to sell the farm and dwelling #290 to the daughter of David's brother (James Ritchie) and her husband. The farm, including dwelling #290 were purchased by Mr Brian Cuthbert Parcell and his wife Olga (Poppy) Parcell (nee Ritchie). At this time, David & Jessie Ritchie retired to a property in Erris Street, Cromwell.
3019 1943 Brian & Olga Parcell purchased dwelling #290. Mr Brian Parcell purchased dwelling #290 and the dairy farm in Happy Valley from David Ritchie (Olga's uncle)
3022 Bridget Speight did not live here full time as she worked on various sheep stations. Bridget Speight did not live here full time as she worked on various sheep stations.
3023 Dwelling #290 purchased by the De Jong family from Dunedin. The De Jong family from Dunedin purchased dwelling #290 as a holiday home. They had three daughters. They now live in dwelling #290 full time.
