3081 | 1880 | Mr Barr came to Bannockburn. | William Barr moved to Bannockburn and worked on Kawarau Station as a rabbiter for 40 years. It is not known when he built or moved to dwelling #299. |
3083 | 1909 | Location #299 was burnt down. | The Cromwell Argus reported on 3 May 1909 : " Mr William Barr who has been rabbiting on Kawarau Station for a long number of years had the misfortune to have his camp burnt down last week. he must have gone to sleep and left the light burning, which caused the fire. on waking up, the roof was in flames and Mr Barr had only time to pick up his clothes and get out. He lost everything, including a sum of money. " It appears that Mr Barr may have replaced dwelling #299 (possibly with help from Kawarau Station) with dwelling #435, on or about the same location. |
