3121 c1862 Memories from G M Hassing. Early in the year, within weeks of the gold rush in the Cromwell area, and elderly man by the name of Peter started the first ferry service from Cornish Point to Cromwell at the junction of the Kawarau and Clutha Rivers. He was later drowned in the area.
