3324 | 1897 | Mine location. | The exact location of this mine is unknown at this time, however it appears that it may have been near the lower Bannockburn Creek, approx 900m from the Kawarau River. The mine entrance may have been on the right bank of the creek. |
3325 | 1897 | General notes. | In his notes, J P Parcell recalls as a boy he worked for J L Gibson and W R Parcell (2) looking for coal in Bannockburn Creek near the old Cairnmuir mines. He then states " Gibson struck coal near Charlie Angel's tunnel " Charles Angel (2) was listed as a miner in Stones directory in 1887. There is no listing for 1886. The author has no record earlier but has the list for 1879 where only Charles's father is listed. J P Parcell also mentioned Parcell & Gibson sinking a shaft and using an old tailrace (maybe Angel's) as an access. |
