3593 1887 General notes. Mess'rs Parcell and Jones sunk a coal prospecting shaft in lower Poverty Gully. It was located near the Bannockburn-Nevis Road in part of Crabbe's sluicing claim, close to the tailrace. It was not known how deep this shaft was, and it appears that no coal was found as the shaft was abandoned.
