Lucy Margaret Graham was born on 15 Mar 1877 to James W Graham and Susannah Brown.

1573 1879 Birth of Robert Robertson.

Robert Robertson was born on Nov 10 1879, in the Kawarau Gorge to James Robertson and Margaret Susan Lucy Farr. James and his brother John Wright Robertson had a coal mine in the Kawarau Gorge, and Robert started school at the Kawarau Gorge school.

1574 c1885 James Robertson deserts the family.

It appears that James Robertson was a heavy drinker and deserted his family. Around this time Margaret Robertson moved to Cromwell with two of her boys, Robert and Alexander. They lived in a run down house in Achil Street.

1576 1885 General Notes

On 12 March, John Hector Robertson, the eldest son of Margaret purchased a house in Murray Street, Cromwell for his mother. He was a successful gold miner in the Kawarau Gorge and Gees Flat. The house, known as 'Renshaws' was purchased from Mr Sharcoe for the sum of £80. The stone building was later used as an ice cream factory, then a deer meat factory, and is now under Lake Dunstan. Unfortunately the pressure of trying to raise her children became too much for Mrs Robertson.

1577 1889 Death of Margaret Robertson

On or before 13 Dec 1889, Mrs Margaret Susan Lucy Robertson drowned herself in the Kawarau River.

1578 1889 Robert went to live with his Aunty.

On Dec 13 1889, Robert Robertson was removed from Std 3 of Cromwell school. He went to live with his aunty, Mrs Sarah Robertson, proprietor of the Bannockburn Hotel (location #115)

1579 1890 Robert enrolled at the Bannockburn school.

Robert left school on 13 Sept 1894, probably to help out around the hotel.

1581 1894 Death of Roberts aunt, Mrs Sarah Robertson.

On Dec 25, Mrs Sarah Robertson died. At this time is appears that Mr J H Robertson (Robert's older brother) and his family moved into dwelling #115 and took over as proprietor of the Bannockburn Hote.. Robert may have stayed on with his brother and family.

1584 1897 Robert's brother sold the Bannockburn Hotel.

Robert's brother, Mr J H Robertson (Jnr) sold the Bannockburn Hotel.

1585 1898 Robert moved to the Nevis.

Robert Robertson moved to the Nevis and worked on dredges and gold mines. At one stage he had shares and worked for the Pactulus Gold Mining Company. They constructed a large water race to sluice an area where the McLeans had worked in the lower Nevis. The mining company was not successful.

1586 1912/1913 Robert returned to Bannockburn.

It appears that about this time Robert returned to Bannockburn and worked as a coal miner, possibly for William Robertson in the Cairnmuir Mine (see location #191)

1587 1913 Marriage of Robert and Lucy.

On 202 Mar 1913, Robert Robertson married Lucy Margaret Graham, daughter of the late James W Graham, Bannockburn school teacher, and his wife Susannah (Brown). The wedding took place at the Presbyterian Manse in Cromwell. Lucy Margaret Graham was listed in Stones directory as a music teacher (1906-1912). The couple may have lived with Mrs S Graham in dwelling #88.

1588 1914 Robert listed in Stones directory as a miner.

Stones directory lists Robert Robertson as a miner working in Bannockburn. It appears that he worked for a coal mine in lower Shepherds Creek, the Cairnmuir Mine. (location #191). In 1914 the mine was taken over by the Parcell syndicate.

1589 1915 Robert Robertson purchased dwelling #105.

It appears that Mr Robert Robertson purchased dwelling #105 from James Horn for the sum of £150 (one hundred and fifty pound). (possibly in Dec). Mr and Mrs Robertson may have moved from dwelling #88 to dwelling #105 about this time. The name of John Horn's house was the 'Huntly Lodge'

1590 c1917 Robert working for Shepherds Creek coal mine.

It appears that about this time Robert went to work in the Shepherds Creek Coal Mine (location #248)

1591 1930 Robert purchased the Bannockburn Store.

Robert purchased the Bannockburn Store (location #87) from Messrs G C Burghess and J Graham.

1592 c1930 Marriage of Joan Miriam Robertson

Joan Miriam Robertson married Arthur Sutherland, son of Clem Sutherland (dwelling #134) and the couple moved to Ripponvale.

1593 1936 Marriage of Marjorie Gwenneth Robertson.

on 24 Aug 1936, Marjorie Gwenneth Robertson was married to James Duncan Stewart from Glasgow, Scotland. The couple moved to Scotland after the wedding.

1594 c1942 Margorie and James return from Scotland

It appears that about this time, Mr and Mrs Jame Stewart returned from Scotland to Bannockburn where they lived with Mrs Stewart's parents in dwelling #105.

1596 1946 Robert sold the Bannockburn Store to his son-in-law.

Robert Robertson sold the Bannockburn General Store (location #87) to his son-in-law, James Duncan Stewart. However he continued to live in dwelling #105, which he shared with his daughter and son-in-law.

1597 1951 Robert still listed in Stones directory as a Justice of the Peace.

Robert Robertson left Bannockburn and joined his wife in Dunedin, with their daughter Joan. Both Mr & Mrs Robertson spent the remainder of their life in Dunedin and they are both buried there.
