Charles moved to dwelling #109 with his mother after the death of his father Mr John Ellis. He worked in Bowes grocery store in Cromwell. Charlie enjoyed helping Ted Lawrence of dwelling #106 to groom his horses. Later in life, Charles Ellis married his wife Ann, who he had met at a church organisation they both belonged to. This was the no-name church, the Coonyites. |

During the second world war, Mr Charles Ellis, due to his religious beliefs, declared himself a conscientious objector. Unfortunately because of this he received a lot of abuse. When Mr Vincent Parcell of dwelling #224 was called up for war service (he went to Trentham Camp but did not go overseas due to fitness problems) Mr Charles Ellis went and looked after his farm as well as working in the local coal mines. |
