1679 1947 General Notes

Mr Kitto returned home to Lowburn after serving in World War 2 as an army driver in the desert war. On 30 April he purchased dwelling #109 from the estate of Mrs M S M Ellis. He was married to Rata Dorothy Ritchie who was the daughter of James and Eleanor Ritchie of Carrick Station. Miss Ritchie had worked in Dunedin as a seamstress, and continued to take in sewing and alteration work after her marriage. Mrs Kitto's mother, Mrs Eleanor Marion Ritchie, the widow of James Ritchie came to live with the couple for some time before she purchased dwelling #79 and moved to there. Mr Kitto worked as a farm labourer and a rabbiter. He later worked for the Bannockburn Pest Destruction Board. Dwelling #109 was upgraded for Mr Kitto. The veranda and steel framed windows were added. The building was re-clad in cement based plaster by Mr Frank Fitzgerald (dwelling #148). The garage was built by Mr Kitto. The mud bricks were made by Errol and Rata with material from an old mining claim behind the property (now the Bannockburn Domain).

1680 1974 Death of Rata Kitto.

Rata Kitto died on 18 Jan of cancer. She is buried in the Cromwell cemetery.

1681 1989 Errol Kitto moved to Cromwell hospital.

Errol Kitto could no longer care for himself at home and he moved to the Cromwell hospital.

1682 1989 On 3 Sep 1989, dwelling #109 was sold to Mrs G Ritchie.

On 3 Sep 1989, dwelling #109 was purchased from Mr Kitto by Mrs G Ritchie by way of a mortgage.

1683 ? Death of Errol Kitto.

Mr Errol Kitto is buried in the Cromwell cemetery with his wife Rata.
