John Hector Robertson was the first son of James Robertson and Margaret Susan Lucy Farr. he may have been born in Sydney, Australia, but did live in the Kawarau Gorge with his parents, maybe near or at Georgetown. John went to school there and may have worked for his father in his coal mine near the mouth of the Kawarau Gorge.
1816 c1887 John H Robertson was listed in Stones directory as a miner.

John H Robertson was listed in Stones directory as a miner working in Bannockburn. It is not known where he worked at this time, but it may have been on the Carrick Range.
1817 1894 John (2) Robertson takes over the Bannockburn Hotel.

On 25 Dec 1894, Johns aunty, Mrs Sarah Robertson died at the age of 44 years. At this time it apears that Mr John Robertson(2) and his family moved into location #115 and John took over as the proprietor of the Bannockburn Hotel. Robert Robertson, Johns younger brother, may have continued to live at the hotel. He had lived there with his aunty after the death of his mother.
1818 1896 A telephone was installed in the Post Office.

1819 1897 John Robertson sold location #115 to Mr John Docton Parsons.
