Notes

Note Date Short Description Note Text
2296 1935 Mine location.

The mine was located on Slaughteryard Hill, eastern end of Revells Gorge. The access track is directly opposite the Bannockburn Inlet picnic area toilet block, on the western side of Cairnmuir Road.

2297 1935 List of owners

J P Parcell's Heart of the Desert lists J Gibson, Cooper brothers and Burrows brothers. Some of the listed names may not be correct.

2298 1935 General notes.

It appears that the Cooper brothers, J Gibson and the Burrows brothers formed the New Cromwell Colliert Company and sunk a shaft at the eastern end of Revells Gorge to work the Cairnmuir seam of coal under Slaughteryard Hill. The exact location or details of this mine are not known, however the mine may well be the same as later developed by the New Cairnmuir Colliery Company (location #186). If not, it was in the very same area.

2299 1938 The mine was closed.

It appears that the mine was closed around 1938, and does not seem to have been very successful with a total of only 596 tons of coal having been won.
