The Swains may have been friends of the Rivers family. They used / renter dwelling #206 as a holiday home. The couple did some renovations and improvements to the house. When Richard Clark purchased they farm, they claimed that they had purchased the house only from Murray Rivers - which turned out to be untrue - however, Mr Clark let the Swain's use dwelling #206 as a holiday home for a number of years. The house had been very derelict when the Swain's first arrived. The family came from Dunedin and had a young family. It seems that Mr Swain may have been a carpenter or builder. The Swain's were involved with showing dogs. |
