Lola was actually the daughter of Williams brother Robert, but was raised by William and his wife after Lola's mother died.

William Toms was probably born in dwelling #231, to Thomas and Mary Anne Toms (exact date is unknown)

2579 1896 Electoral roll records.

The electoral roll of 1896 lists William Toms as a miner. He may have worked with his father on the Carrick Range.

2580 1900 Marriage of William and Jean.

On 12 Dec 1900 William Toms married Jean Hancock in the Bannockburn Methodist Church, and moved to the Nevis shortly thereafter. The wedding was reported in the Cromwell Argus. The Weslyan Methodist Church Committee presented Jean Hancock with a bible as a token of her service for playing the organ at Bannockburn - 9 Dec 1900.

Una Wallace The grandson of William Toms (Mr James William Toms (Jim) of Roxburgh remembers a large Lawsonia* tree in front of the house. * the shape of this tree is similar to a yew tree. It has similar branchlets as a Macrocarpa but has fans that lie flat rather than in all directions.

Stones directory lists William Toms as an orchardist in Bannockburn. William, with the help of his brother Robert may have planted the orchard around dwelling #230, which consisted of apples, pears, apricots and cherries. Mr J J Hancock may have planted the original orchard.

2592 1944 Death of William Toms.

William was riding on a cart , with his son Theo driving. They were crossing the ford in Tinley's creek close to the flying fox (location #236) when he lost his hold and fell heavily. He was taken to the Cromwell hospital where they found he had a broken rib. On 10 Sep, William Toms died of pneumonia in Cromwell hospital at the age of 71 years. He is buried in the Cromwell cemetery.
