It appears that Mr Lavender may have built the 'flying fox' to transfer milk/cream and or pig food across Birnies Creek to the piggery and cow byre on the western bank.

On Birnies Creek, Birnies Gully, adjacent to Jocelyn Road. Approx 100m along Jocelyn Road from the Gully Road intersection.

A wire stretched across Birnies Gully from Jocelyn Road to the western bank, supported on railway iron uprights, braced with chain. The 'chair' consisted of a flat steel round frame to carry a milk can or similar.
