The S Hewison syndicate purchased the leases on #243, #248 and #249 from the estate of John Hodson (2). Sid Hewison ran the fish and chip shop in Cromwell and Ted Jelly had a drapery shop in London House in Cromwell. It appears that the syndicate worked location #248 and replaced the steam engine with electric motors to drive the winch and pumps. Mine personnel were : Sid Hewison - mine manager, Charlie Scott - miner, Herbert (Bert) Laney - electrician. |
