Ellis helped to build the Bannockburn Methodist Church (#93). A poem/song was written about the locals building the church in which Ellis is mentioned as "plastering the walls with his bare hands". The eldest son of Ellis ( Ellis John Williams (2)) was a lay preacher in the Bible Christian Group. The Williams family were supporters of he 'Bannockburn Band of Hope' organised by the Bible Christian Mission.
