The Cornish Point Gold Mining Company was a Dunedin based syndicate formed to tunnel for gold on Cornish Point. To gain access to the site for their workers and materials, they constructed a chair from below the Cromwell railway area across to Cornish Point. The company operated for around 6 years, and employed up to 6 workers, until returns proved too low and work was suspended in 1935.
