The author has been unable to find any details other than that it was a water wheel driving a Californian pump, mentioned in the papers of the mining surveyor Mr J.J.Coates published in 1865. See also locations #388 and #389. |
| 3355 | 1863 | General notes. |
In July of 1863 Dr. James Corse, Horn and party were mining at Quartz Reef point above Cromwell on the Clutha River. They were using a 12 ft (3.6m) overshot water wheel driving a Californian pump to keep their claim free of water. This machine was built by a Cromwell carpenter, Mr William Grant, and was known as the 'Pride of the Clutha'. The Anderson & party machine may have been similar to the 'Pride of the Clutha'. |
