3404 1909 Location

The dwelling was located on the eastern side of Round Hill. There was a water race uphill of the hut, which is still owned by the Kawarau Station. There is also a water race below the hut, which is now owned by Happy Valley Station.

3405 1909 William Barr built the hut.

In April of 1909, William Barr's camp (dwelling #299) was accidentally burnt down. It appears that soon after he built a new hut, probably with the help of Kawarau Station, in or about the same location as dwelling #299. This new hut may have been timber framed with corrugated iron cladding and roof, and with a stone chimney.
