It appears that the conical separator was part of the gold recovery process used on the Carrick Battery (see location #378 for more details). The Carrick Battery's 10 head stamper crushed the quartz in the mortar boxes. The pulp was then run over electroplated copper plates and into the conical separator which has a jet of water entering at the bottom and assisted in the separation. From the cone the sand passed to the cyanide tanks. |
