3525 unknown Origin and purpose

It appears that the conical separator was part of the gold recovery process used on the Carrick Battery (see location #378 for more details). The Carrick Battery's 10 head stamper crushed the quartz in the mortar boxes. The pulp was then run over electroplated copper plates and into the conical separator which has a jet of water entering at the bottom and assisted in the separation. From the cone the sand passed to the cyanide tanks.

3526 c1920s The separator was used as a water tank.

In Hall Road, the separator had been mounted on the bank of the terrace behind it;'s present location and used as a water tank, fed by a water race for the Crabbe household (dwelling #48).

3527 2013 Mrs McLeod ( the current owner ) shifted it to its current location.
