John formed a partnership with his son William (Billy). J Lynn and Son - carriers, operated a service between Bannockburn and Frankton Wharf, Wakatipu. Once when approaching the Bannockburn bridge a wheel broke on Lynn's wagon and the team crashed into the end of the bridge killing two horses.

John Lynn sold his carrying business to Ted O'Fea. He purchased the Stewart Town property of Mr A McGregor which included dwelling #140 and #136 (Menzies Dam) with the water rights from Long Gully.

The first John Lynn child died as an infant. The second John Lynn child also died very young ( less than 2 years ) of whooping cough. William started at B/B school on 5 Aug 1889 Ruth started at B/B school on 31 Aug 1891. She was a teacher at the school from 1909 to 1913.
