3596 1927 (?) Mine location.

The mine is located in Shepherds Creek, in the western slope of the terrace, north of Long Alex gully. Approx 308m south of the Gully Road, Bannockburn-Nevis Road intersection. The outline of the portal and tiphead are still visible however the mine has been closed off.

3597 1927 Mine owners.

To date, the author has been unable to identify the original or any owners prior to 1927 when John Hodson (1) was working location #243 which seems to have opened up from the original mine #510.

3598 1927 General notes.

A survey plan of location #243, produced by Mr G A Blaikie (surveyor) of Gore in 1943 shows some details of location #510. Shown at about 26m north of the portal of location #243 and labelled as 'opening'. This opening is connected to the underground working with lines to a drive (which was not surveyed) and off this drive are short broken stub drives with labels stating that they are older drives (probably unsafe or collapsed). This unsurveyed section of location #243 may be the original, much older mine #510. There is a stone chimney close to location #510, (location #379) which may be the original mine owners dwelling. One resident of location #379 may have been Mr J J Halliday, but this cannot be confirmed (c1871 ?).
