1225 | 1946 | General Notes |
Murray served in the second world war and took up residence in dwelling #79 soon after the end of the war. He had come from Middlemarch. He worked on the Kawarau Station and spent time rabbiting, spreading lime, and general farm duties. Mr Newman also worked for the Bannockburn Pest Destruction Board as a rabbiter. Both Mr & Mrs Newman were very musical and were involved in local dance bands. It appears that Mr Newman played the guitar and the piano, while Mrs Newman played the banjo. Two bands that the couple played in were the 'OK' dance band and the 'Gaity' dance band. Both of these were four piece bands that played on the Bannockburn, Lowburn and Cromwell dance circuit. (For more details see general information folder No 1, Section 8 - Entertainers) |
