Mr Stewart and Mr McLeod shared dwelling #85. It seems that both men came out from Scotland. James Stewart had come from Glasgow, and had worked on the Waitaki Power Project before coming to Bannockburn and a government assisted gold miner. Mr McLeod may also have come from Glasgow, and may have also worked on the Waitaki power project.

On 24 Aug 1936 James Duncan Stewart married Marjorie Gwenneth Robertson, daughter of Robert Robertson, storekeeper and Lucy Margaret Graham. The couple moved to Scotland after the wedding.

Malcolm McLeod is listed in Stones directory for 1936 as a miner living in Bannockburn. He is remembered for his ability to play the bagpipes. It is not clear when Mr McLeod left Bannockburn, however it may have been soon after James Stewart married and moved away (in 1936)
