Mr Scott spent some time gold mining in the Kawarau Gorge. This involved sinking a shaft in a rock bluff on the true right bank, a short distance downstream from the Roaring Meg power station. The tiphead from the mine is still visible. During the time he was mining in the gorge he was hit by a motor bike and was badly injured. He recovered, but was troubled for the rest of his life by a bad leg. Mr Scott worked for a time fending on the Kawarau Station. Bill lived in dwelling #89 before he had any children.
